Don’t let the snow cover fool you: there’s a ton to do in Saratoga in the winter.
Winter activities include:
• Skiing and/or snowboarding
• Riding a snowmobile
• Cross-country skiing
• Ice skating
• Ice fishing
• Hiking along trails with snowshoes
In addition, many of our art galleries, museums, boutiques, shops, bookstores, restaurants, and spas stay open to accommodate winter visitors.
Another must-do if you’re here in late December is First Night. This annual New Year’s Eve celebration will see you and your family enjoying Saratoga in all its holiday finery (lots of lights and decorations), in a family-friendly atmosphere.
Between 15,000 and 20,000 people attend First Night each year and many believe it to be the largest New Year’s Eve event in New York State after Times Square.
Children and adults can enjoy dozens of performances by live musicians, artists, comedians, dancers, and more. There are films to watch, food to drink, fireworks to enjoy, and many phrases of Auld Lang Syne to sing at midnight.
Come to Saratoga in late January or early February and you’ll be just in time to enjoy Winterfest, which provides residents and visitors alike the opportunity to enjoy wine tasting, music, entertainment and -- drumroll – Chowderfest!
Chowderfest is one day during Winterfest when Saratoga’s restaurants offer cups of their best chowder for just $1. Tasters can vote for the best chowder (and believe us when we say the competition is fierce!). There’s also plenty of live music, street vendors and other entertainment to enjoy as you chow down on your chowder.
Warm up cold toes by dancing the weekend away during the Dance Flurry. Held in mid-February over Presidents’ Day Weekend, the Flurry is made for all levels of dance ability, from beginners to advanced dancers. You can enjoy swing dancing, contra dancing, tango, waltzing, and more. Lessons are available.
The Swedes have a saying (paraphrasing): “There is no such thing as bad weather, there are only bad clothes.”
So, bundle up and get out and enjoy Saratoga in winter!
The Westchester House B&B is closed during the winter season.
